A consultation starts with the space rather than with a catalog. Your specialist looks at where the room could go, how you would reach it on a February night, what the ground is doing underneath it, and where the power is today. We ask who is going to use it, how often, and at what hour, because a room built for one person at six in the morning is a different room from one built for a family on a Saturday.

Design lives inside this stage. Most people can picture a sauna. Fewer can picture their sauna, on their site, with the door where it needs to be and the bench at the height their household will use. Layout mockups and image renderings close that gap, and for residential work they are included in the consultation rather than sold as a separate engagement. Commercial design engagements are scoped individually.

Representing you rather than the makers has a practical consequence: the recommendation is allowed to be inconvenient for us. We are not locked into a single catalog we have to move, so the answer can be the room that suits your site rather than the room that suits our week.

The logic is simple once someone says it out loud. Outdoor usually means traditional heat, and in a climate that cycles hard we lean toward thermally modified wood. Indoor with a smaller footprint often points toward infrared. Sensitivity to resins and finishes points toward basswood. Heat that feels harsh or stratified points toward a heater that moves air. A design-led project points somewhere else again.

A sauna is a heavy, hot, wet object that sits outdoors for years. What it sits on decides how it ages. So we look at the ground before we look at the model: how water moves across the site, where it collects after a storm, whether the surface is level and will stay level, and how the crates reach the spot on delivery day without crossing something you care about.

Each of our markets pushes on this differently. Where the ground freezes and thaws, the base has to hold level through the cycle and the wood has to stand up to high-altitude sun. Where the soil is clay and the summers are humid, drainage and a stable base are most of the conversation. Where conditions are mild, placement becomes a design decision, and salt air matters near the coast.

Electrical coordination is part of your project. Our team will assess it with you during the consultation, then hold the schedule so power is ready before the build crew arrives rather than after they have gone.

We do not give electrical guidance on this site and we do not give it on the phone, because that is licensed work and it belongs to the person who holds the license. What we own is the coordination. The electrician knows what the room needs, the crew knows when power will be live, and you are not the one relaying messages between two trades who have never spoken.

Freight is its own project, and it is where most self-managed builds first go sideways. We coordinate the carrier, the delivery window, the unload, and where the crates sit until the crew is ready for them. Someone who works for us is there when the truck arrives.

Assembly means a crew, a plan, and a sequence. We protect the route in, assemble in order, and set the door and the glass properly, because the door is the part you touch every single time you use the room. Trim and finish work is done before we call it finished, level is confirmed, and the site is cleaned up before we leave. The crates and packaging leave with us.

Heat and weather go to work on every sauna ever made. That is physics rather than a defect, and it is the reason protection is a stage in our process instead of a bag of product left on the bench. Wood is treated for the exposure it has: sun angle, moisture, wind, and the freeze and thaw cycle it is going to see year after year.

Your specialist sets a maintenance rhythm with you rather than handing over a generic schedule, because a west-facing unit on an exposed lot and a sheltered unit under mature trees do not age at the same rate. The two protection services we offer are described further down this page.

Something will eventually need attention, and most owners discover their seller was a website. Ours is a phone number that does not change once the build is finished. That is the whole difference, and it only becomes obvious later.
