What it is, and what it needs.
- Wood
- Thermally modified spruce. Thermory barrels are built on a 1.57 inch board. SaunaLife builds in Nordic thermo-spruce, heat treated so it is dimensionally stable and rot resistant, with no chemical treatments.
- Where it can go
- Outdoors, on its own cradle supports or on compacted gravel, a concrete pad, pavers, or a deck platform. The surface has to be level, stable, and draining.
- Roof covering
- Not every barrel includes shingles or a rain jacket, and without them leaks and warping follow. Every Thermory natural barrel includes its rain jacket.
- Heater
- Electric or wood fired. Electric needs a matched controller and stones, and it is part of the electrical coordination. Wood fired needs a professionally installed chimney kit. Sizing is settled with a specialist rather than from a chart.
- Install
- Freight arrives curbside on a pallet. Our crew handles site preparation, skilled assembly, the heater and stones, electrical coordinated through licensed electricians, packaging haul away, and a first burn walkthrough.
- Looking after the wood
- Left unfinished, thermally modified wood silvers naturally and takes no harm from it. Many members choose exactly that. To hold the original brown tone, the Exterior Preservation Buildout applies Osmo 410 UV Protection Oil in a two coat treatment with a one year application warranty.
- Looking after the interior
- Benches, wall paneling, and the door are sealed with a water based, sauna specific wax formulated to resist the heat and humidity that destroys ordinary finishes.

The barrel is the shape most people picture when they picture a sauna outside. It heats faster than the flat walled formats and it feels classic, which is most of why members choose it: a traditional room reaches roughly 170 degrees Fahrenheit in about an hour, and the footprint fits yards that cannot take a cabin.
Access is the thing that surprises people more often than the pad does. Freight arrives curbside on a heavy pallet, and the parts have to travel from there to the spot. Driveway width, fence gates, stairs, and slope are all on the checklist we run before a quote goes out, because a barrel that cannot reach the back yard is a problem nobody can solve on delivery day.
After the build, the part most sellers never plan for. Heat and weather go to work on every sauna ever made. Boards move, hardware loosens, stones settle, and something will eventually want attention. Because we live in the markets we serve, the people who built the room are the people who come back to it.
